Cothrom is an organisation that is campaigning for a peaceful settlement in N.Ireland that is equally fair and equally just to both communities there.
Essentially , the beliefs of Cothrom are as follows:-
-that any settlement in N.Ireland must come about through non-violence (which means that the violence of today AND the violence of the past which brought the present situation into existence are BOTH wrong);
-that an end to violence by itself is not enough to bring permanent peace and that there has to be a stable political settlement that has the support of a majority of the people in BOTH of the main traditions;
-that it is time that everyone who believes that any political settlement must have have the support and acceptance of a majority of the people in both traditions actually started publically expressing that view.
Further understanding of what Cothrom is about may be got from other Cothrom documents. I may express some opinions in these documents about how a political settlement should come about or what form it should take but these are just my opinions. In the last analysis it is up to the people of N.Ireland to make peace amongst themselves.
Once the people of N.Ireland work out an agreement that has the support of a majority of Catholics and a majority of Protestants it is up to everyone else to help and support this agreement.
